Troop 1310 Raising Money Wreaths Across America

BSA Troop 1310 (all girls troop) and Troop 310 (all boys troop) are hiking 11 miles to raise money to honor veterans with Wreaths Across America. The scouts will hike on November 10, and then any money raised will be given to Wreaths Across America at a Veterans’ Day ceremony in Chatham, Illinois, on November 11, 2024.

You can sponsor a wreath today to be placed on a Veteran’s grave this December at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. Please email Troop1310scoutmaster@gmail.com for payment information. The flyer can be found here.

During their hike, the scouts will be “trail cooking,” which means food that can be prepared easily with limited resources. “MREs” (meals, ready-to-eat), which are self-contained rations used by the U.S. military and Department of Defense for soldiers in combat or field conditions where other food is not available, are an example of trail cooking. Trail cooking is a requirement for BSA’s Cooking merit badge.

In May, Troop 1310 and 310 also participated in placing American flags on Veterans’ graves in Camp Butler National Cemetery for Memorial Day. They also participated in a Memorial Day ceremony honoring Veterans in Chatham, Illinois.
